In 1961 the Department of Youth Welfare was established in the University, to promote social and cultural activities among the Students. Later, the Department was renamed as the Department of Student Services.

OUR ACTIVITIES

Student Welfare Programmes

• MEDICAL INSURANCE SCHEMES :The following insurance Schemes are disbursed by this office both for medical reimbursement and death claim for students.
• Student Group Personal Accident Insurance Scheme (SGPAIS) (up to 2016 Admission)
• Student Welfare Scheme (SWS) (2017 up to 2019 Admission)
• Student Care Scheme (SCS) (2019 onwards)
• LEADERSHIP TRAINING CAMP: DSS conducts leadership Training Camp for Students every year. The Camp aims to inculcate leadership qualities among the students
• STUDENTS AID FUND: The Department of Student Services disburse Poor Student Scholarship from Student Aid Fund of the University
• ANTI DRUG CAMPAIGN: Anti - Drug Campaign The Programme intends to make awareness among Student community against drug consumption and do the best to checkmate the evil effects of the same in our society.
• PALLIATIVE CARE CLUB : The Programme exclusively aims at creating the spirit of social services among the Student community and make them equipped suit for such requirements.
• YUKTHI BHADRAMAYA CAMPUS - SUSTHIRA KERALA : The Programme is envisaged to promote Scientific reasoning and free thinking in campus. An amount of Rs 7 Lakhs is the allocation of fund in 2019-20for the Programme in Various College Campus.
• ENDOWMENT AWARD : The DSS organizes the Endowment award the function at University Senate Hall for giving Endowment Awards to the Rank Holders of various Examinations of Our University.
• TALENT AWARD : The winners ( 1stand 2nd Prize) of Kerala university Youth Festival, Drama Festival, inter- University Youth Festivals are given talent awards ( Cash Prizes) by the Department.

Socio Cultural Programmes

• International Level Festivals–organized by AIU and Ministry of Youth affairs and sports, Government of India. Our University team was invited to perform at many such events owing to the outstanding performances at the National Inter University Youth Festival.
• National Inter University Youth Festival – organized by AIU and Ministry of Youth affairs and sports, Government of India. The Kerala University team is always noted for its stupendous performance each year. The team finished third in the festival among more than 120 participating Universities.
• South Zone Inter University Youth Festival - organized by AIU and Ministry of Youth affairs and sports, Government of India. The team had been continuously winning overall championship at this festival every year in the recent decade. This year University of Kerala finished second, missing the overall championship by just one point. The team expects to continue winning the overall championship in the coming years also.
• Dr. K. N. PAI MEMORIAL QUIZ COMPETITION Dr. K N Pai Memorial Quiz Completion is organized and conducted every year at the Department of Student Services. A team consist of two Students can be participated in the event from all colleges and departments affiliated to our University. First, Second and Third Prize winners will be awarded Cash Prizes.
• G. KARTHIKEYAN MEMORIAL AWARD - University of Kerala awards G. Karthikeyan Memorial Award for the best College Union every year in memory of the former Speaker of Kerala Legislative assembly and Minister for Cultural Affairs. An amount of Rs 25000/- is the prize money.
• KAVALAM NARAYANA PANICKER MEMORIAL AWARD - Our University has also installed KavalamNarayanaPanicker Memorial award for the best Drama Team in memory of the renowned playwright, poet and Director of theatre Sri. Kavalam Narayana Panicker. The best drama team is selected from the first prize winner team in the drama festival conducted by Kerala University Union every year. An amount of Rs 25000/- is the prize

Kerala University Union Programmes

• Kerala University Union Youth Festival The DSS plays the Key Role in Organizing and conducting the Kerala University Youth Festival every year. There are 102 Competition Events in five categorize ie. Music, Dance, Literary Events, Theater and Fine Arts. Around 5000 Students Participate in this festival from more than 250 Colleges and Departments and the Festival is accredited as one of the biggest Youth Festival in Asia.
• KERALA UNIVERSITY UNION DRAMA FESTIVAL The DSS and the Kerala University Union conducts Drama Festival every year and the festival gives importance to Theatre Activities and Progress of the Students in this field.
