The Supreme Court of India while considering the case Vishaka and others VS State of Rajasthan, pronounced its judgement which laid down guidelines for dealing with sexual harassment of woman at work place in India through The Sexual Harassment of Women at Work place (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act 2013 and accordingly there shall be an internal mechanism in every, union, State and its Departments & Institutions including private to address grievances of women.

Pursuant to the above, the UGC notified the regulations namely � UGC (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal of Sexual Harassment of Women and students in Higher Education Institutions) Regulations, 2015.

As per the UGC regulations, it is mandatory for all the Higher Education Institutions in India to constitute an ICC with an inbuilt mechanism for gender sensitization against sexual harassment.

Dr. Jaya D.S., Professor, Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Kerala is the Presiding Officer of the present Committee. The present ICC was re-constituted on 11.02.2020 and which contains 9 members including student representatives.
