Department of Geology (Established in : 1963)


M.Sc Geology

Course covers all traditional areas of geology. Encourages students to take up internships in summer.

Duration : 2 years (4 semesters)

Eligibility/Qualification : Students who have graduated in Geology ( with 50% marks with eligible relaxation for reserved candidates) are eligible for seeking admissions to the Post Graduate course in Geology (M.Sc Geology). Foreign students are welcome to join the department for MSc, MPhil and PhD. Admissions are processed through the Indian Council for Cultural Relations. Seats : 10 seats every year for M.Sc. Additional seats for foreign students

HOW TO APPLY The application can be obtained from the Department/ University or can be downloaded from the university website. Selection is on the basis of the performance of the applicants in their B.Sc. exams and entrance test (1:1). For detailed information regarding admission and entrance test contact the department. ****** Aim of M. Sc Geology course ****** Mankind depends on The Earth for all his needs. The subject of Geology gives the strength to locate earth resources and exploit the same in a sustainable manner. The course aims at providing quality education in Geology to the students so that they can become well-rounded experts in the core areas of the subject. The syllabus is designed in such a way that the students are exposed to the developments in geology and modern tools in exploration and exploitation of natural resources. Suitable stress is provided in the curriculum so as to make the students competent enough to appear for competitive examinations for employment and research purposes. The current trends in geology research are imbibed by the students through interaction with the faculty, Indian and foreign geologists who visit the department, and also through doing internships in premier institutes in India.

Ph D Programme

The department has produced over 35 Ph.D.s and 20 M.Phil.s till date. The M.Phil and Ph.D. thesis completed covered the various disciplines such as petrology, structural geology, sedimentology, stratigraphy, mineralogy, Remote Sensing, Geochemistry, Hydrogeology, Economic Geology, Environmental Geology etc. For the eligibility and admission for these courses please visit research.keralauniversity.ac.in

Seats : 8 scholars can be guided by each faculty member. Retired faculty cannot guide students.
