M.Sc Statistics

The objective of this course is to mould value added young Statisticians who can either take up Govt./Private jobs or pursue higher studies including Research in Statistics. M.Sc.Programme is a four semester master level programme with an intake of 15 students. The students of this course are given course works in core areas of Statistics and also exposed to handle real life problems through the practical classes as well as by selecting a project work involving applications of Statistics. As a part of the course they are taught some programming languages and also exposed to various Statistical softwares such as R, SPSS, Minitab, Mathematica and SAS.

Eligibility/Qualification : B.Sc. degree in Mathematics or Statistics main with at least 55% marks for optional subjects taken together.

The Approximate fees that the candidate has to remit in various forms in all four semester will be Rs.4000/-. Placement Opportunities: Several students get Govt. jobs both in Central and State Government Departments. Indian Statistical Service is another attraction to PG’s in Statistics. Another category of placement is Research officer’s posts in RBI as well as on another Banks. All candidates completing NET/UGC JRF get placement as college/University Lectures immediately. Apart from routine appointment in Software companies our students are given special consideration for some specialized posts such as Statistician in these companies.

M.Phil Statistics

The objective of this course is to mould young students by inculcating a new academic culture in them for pursuing Research studies in Statistics. M.Phil. is a two semester programme with an intake of 10 students. M.Phil being considered as pre-doctoral program. New syllabus for this course has been designed which further provide freedom for students, to choose one paper out of three papers they have to study in the area in which he/she intend to concentrate for research. The new syllabus has been implemented from 2009 admission onwards. The Approximate amount of fees that a candidate has to remit for pursing M.Phil Programme is Rs. 3000/-

Eligibility/Qualification : M.Sc. degree in Statistics main with at least 55% marks.

Ph.D Programme

The objective of this course is to mould value added young students with high caliber of originals thinking and creative abilities as the new generation Professional leaders in Statistics. The Department offers supervision for research degrees of Ph.D in several branches of statistics. The restructured Ph.D. programme of this Department is being implemented from January 2009 admission onwards as per the newly framed guidelines of the Kerala University which includes course work as a compulsory component. The research scholars get financial support from the funding agencies such as University Grants Commission (UGC), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Kerala State Department of Scinece and Technology and National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM). The University of Kerala also offers a limited number of Scholarships for eligible candidates.
