Activities

1. Conferences/Seminars/Workshops organized by the Department

i. Organized with NSSO, Govt. of India, Kerala Circle an one day seminar on Applications of Statistics in Development programmes on 29-06-09 at this department.

ii. Organized a One Day Seminar on Application of Statistics in New Frontiers of Science on 16 May 2008.

iii. This department joined with the University of Kerala in its Organisation of “International Seminar on Democratic and Secular Education” held at this campus during 04-06 December 2008.

iv. Organized Three days National Seminar on “Stochastic Process Modeling, Distribution Theory and Order Statistics” during 16-18 March 2006.

v. Organized One day Conference “On the Life and Contributions of Great Indian Statistical Missionary and Visionary: P. C. Mahalanobis” on 27 June 2003.

vi. Organized Three days National Seminar: “Kerala Statistical Congress” during 23-25 June 2003.

vii. Organized One day Workshop on Bioinformatics on 26 June 2003.

2. Sponsored projects

a. The Department of Scinece and Technolgy, New-Delhi has sponsored this Department under its FIST Programme during 2009-2014.

b. A minor UGC Project on “Evidence of Exponential distribution for income and estimation of income inequalities” has been undertaken by Dr.E.I.Abdul Sathar and is in the completion stage.

c. A minor UGC Project on “Generalizations of Confluent Hypergeometric distributions” has been undertaken by Dr.C.Satheesh Kumar.

3. ALUMNI

The Alumni Association, Department of Statistics, University of Kerala (AADSUK) is working very effectively from 2007 onwards. The latest Annual General Meeting of the Alumni was held on 23 May 2009. For more details visit our website http://aadsuk.org

New Ventures of AADSUK

Some of the students and well-wishers of Prof. R. N. Pillai and Prof. Jacob Sundara Raja have contributed some initial capital and expressed their intention to institute an endowment fund to honour their respected teachers for the love and affection they enjoyed while they were studying in this institution. Later on a proposal to institute another endowment fund to honour late Prof. (Miss) Aleyamma George also was mooted up. Accordingly the executive committee proposed to institute (i) Prof. R. N. Pillai Best Paper Award to young alumni members who have not completed 45 years of age as on 31 December of the calendar year for which the award is given (ii) Prof. Jacob Sundara Raja Best Paper Award to be selected among the registered research scholars of the Department of Statistics, University of Kerala for each calendar year and (iii) Prof. (Miss) Aleyamma George Best Paper Award for the paper published in applied areas such as Bio-Statistics, Demography, Epidemiology, Econometrics, Statistical Quality Control and Operations Research to the young alumni members who have not completed 45 years of age as on 31st December of the calendar year for which the award is given.
